When you think of 12 step programs, you automatically think of Alcoholics Anonymous, which is where it originated. The basis of the 12 step programs can be used in a variety of different situations, but is widely used in programs that treat addictions. Many individuals have incorporated the 12 step program into their lives for all kinds of addictions in addition to alcoholism and drug problems and even stop smoking programs. Is There Really Danger if You Don't Stop Smoking?

I wonder how many people honestly believe or are ignorant enough to think that smoking has no real danger. Let's first look at a big factor to keep living, your heart. Your heart is the size of your fist and the strongest muscle in your body. The life source, if it stops, you die. Real simple. Therefore it would be safe to assume it's a good thing to do what's best for our heart. Why you ask? Because as marvelous as this system is, it is very vulnerable to damage from the things we do to it, like smoking, eating an unhealthy diet or putting it under stress. When your heart's functions become compromised, this is known as cardiovascular disease, a broad term that covers any disorder to the system that has the heart at its center.

Smoking Cessation in Recovering Alcoholics

There are so many areas to look at when it comes to smokers and smoking cessation. A stop smoking program can't fit the needs of all types of people. For example, almost 85 percent of people who are in alcohol recovery smoke compared with 25 percent of the general public. Imagine having gone through the success of quitting problem drinking AND having to quit smoking. The American Family Physician reports that smokers in alcohol recovery may be more addicted to nicotine than smokers who don't have a history of alcohol abuse. But, it is also reported in their findings that smokers who are in recovery from alcohol abuse can stop smoking without starting to drink again. Because smoking and drinking usually go together, smoking can lead to a stronger craving for alcohol. So hypnosis for smoking cessation during treatment for alcoholism, or right after treatment, can actually increase your chances of staying sober.

Stop Smoking is Big Business

We know that the tobacco industry is huge. The amount of money they make is beyond imagination but think of how many people have stopped smoking over the last 10 or 20 years. That's an incredible amount of money the tobacco industry has lost, or have they? I don't know the answer but I like to think about things like, is the tobacco industry behind smoking cessation programs? Let's face it, the people who use stop smoking programs, pills, nicotine patches and the rest of the products and devices available spend a lot of money and yet many still keep smoking. Now if the tobacco industry was behind the manufacturing, distribution and sales of these products, they keep making money while you try to quit smoking. They got you when you smoked, when you tried to stop and again if you start smoking again.

Smoking Cessation for Health Risks

Ever wonder why some people stop smoking because they think they could get sick or ill while other people are ill and still smoke… or how someone could rationalize their dilemma in order to keep smoking while other people respond to the smallest warning sign? It's one thing when we decide to harm ourselves as that is our choice. A dumb one for sure, but still, it's our choice. What bothers me is when I see pregnant women smoking. This is so unacceptable yet there's nothing you can do. I wonder how someone would react if they saw someone forcing a little child to puff away, choking and getting sick. It would be so visibly appalling we just may take action in some way. So what's the difference with the pregnant woman smoking? Couldn't there be even more harm? I wonder which is worse.

Trying to Stop Smoking

There are probably more ways to stop smoking than most of us realize. You can stop smoking with a nicotine patch, nicotine gum, hypnosis, prescription medication from a doctor or just tough it out and go cold turkey. Those people that are able to just decide to stop smoking and quit and do it without any problem actually piss me off, if I'm being honest. If you ever smoked and tried to quit, you'd have an issue with this too… maybe I'm just jealous.

Teen Smoking

The differences between personal feelings of those who smoke and those who don’t are shown in behavioral changes that are more evident in teens than adults. Teens seem to be more abrasive when smoking or they feel like they are older and wiser when they smoke.

Despite the number of health warnings that there have, it is very incomprehensible that many young people are taking up smoking. It's a serious problem, especially in the case of young girls who are increasingly joining the ranks of smokers. Teen smoking is on increase and the long term health risk are at worry stage. And addition to smoking, their health is further threatened by a inactive lifestyle and poor diet. This situation is like a ticking bomb waiting to go off.

The law in Ohio has been passed and yes it's most likely going to spread.
